Burns Night slide, 28th January

29 Jan

Last night the drymat hosted its own Burns Supper, a freestyle session held in honour of the ploughman poet’s 250th birthday celebrations. A sizeable crew, lured by the good conditions and the promise of Haggis-bashing, came down for a mellow slide and the chance to get some last-minute practice in before next week’s Big Air event.

100_01221Halfway through the session, the riders headed into the shack for a dram and some haggis courtesy of Dave and Nicol. Once that was done, Nicol took the hallowed Golden Haggis to the top of the quarter pipe. The riders’ attempts to jib it ranged from Kris Bell’s tailtap on the way down from a huge frontside air, to Matt Gibson belting the haggis clean out of Nicol’s hands….

Despite that, Matt was crowned the night’s Muckle Warrior for his huge variety of tricks: cab 5, cab 7, backside 7, massive backside 180s, there wasn’t much he left unchecked. the Neep o’ the Night title went to the deranged Steve Gunn, cheating death once again in his attempts to get inverted in the quarter pipe.
