Granite City Challenge, Wednesday 22nd April 2009

grancitchallenge

Next wednesday the curtain will fall on what has been a great year for university snowsports events in Aberdeen, including the Granite City Christmas Challenge and the hugely successful Granite City Invitational. The final event is the Granite City Challenge, the annual grudge match between Aberdeen University and RGU. Many of last year’s medallists (RGU’s Andy Wilson and Mike Riddell, Aberdeen’s Ben Kinnear and Chris Mahoney) are either unavailable of have moved on to pastures new, so the door is open for some new talent to make their mark.

Events are as follows:

– Individual Slalom
– Team Dual Slalom (ski teams of 5, board teams of 4, no limit on number of teams from each uni)
– Mogul
– Freestyle Jam (spot prizes for tricks and crowd pleasers, prizes for beginners too)

There are plenty of prizes from sponsors including DC, Ride, SP and Arcus. Take a look at the pic below to get a sneak peek!

Entry is free, although competitors should let their respective clubs know if they wish to compete. As always, there’ll be a party atmosphere all day with top tunes and a BBQ, as well as plenty of free BrewDog beer and Rockstar energy drink. With the final of the Carpet Burn Cup taking place later that evening, the 22nd looks like a good day to be down at the mat!
