Ben Kilner @ Garthdee!!

2 Jul

Last Wednesday saw one of Scotlands sporting heroes, not to mention one of British snowboardings’ sporting heroes pay a visit to us here at Aberdeen Snowsports Centre.

Ben Kilner was kind enough to come down and tell us the story from his first lesson at Glenshee to ‘strapping in’ at the top of the Olympic halfpipe for his all important second qualifying run in the Vancouver winter games.

Ben was kind and modest and an inspiring listen, he told us of his parents kindness and dedication in shuttling him to competitions around the country and how he came to riding half-pipe.

With his first sponsor being Gordon at Granite Reef, he told how important that first sponsor is to getting noticed and how Gordon helped him with this process. With Kris and Fin both also on the Granite Reef team I am sure the boys felt pround and inspired by this. With Emmet and Natalie also sponsored by Boarderline it seems our guys are moving in the right direction and we hope that sometime in the future we’ll see a Team Aberdeen member ‘strapping in’ for a qualifying Olympic run.

Follow Ben on his website http://www.benkilner.com where he posts his twitter updates.
We even got a mention so check it out..
From Bens’ blog roll “This week i have been up to a local dry slope, Garthdee here in Aberdeen to share my experiences of my snowboarding career and give advice on how to move on to the next level. It was great to see the motivation and enthusiasm the kids had for stepping up there game.”

Kind words, so keep it up guys and maybe you’ll be sharing security with Shaun White and Ben Kilner in the 2014 games in Russia.

As promised here’s some photos of the man himself.
