Skid Marks all over!

Skid Marks all over for this year…

prize winners

The biggest and best comp of the year arrived at  Aberdeen Snowsports Centre on Saturday 17 September 2011.  Aberdeen Snowsports Club Junior Members Rowan CameronAngus Jacobs and Fin Bremner, who are all 12 years old have put their money where mouth was and  showed  the rest of us how to organise a great rail jam.

With the sickest rail set up  the boys ran the comp to raise funds to pay for season passes for next winter and bagged big name sponsors Quicksilver, Salomon, Ride, Westbeach, Zaini, Park, Bawbags, Granite Reef and Liberance with the biggest prize fund seen for many a day!

The guys had been promoting the event hard and weren’t disappointed with over 40 competitors battling it out for their share of the goodies!  It was great to see some of the groms from the Saturday and Sunday clubs as well as seasoned pro’s hitting the features with the guys setting a pro line and a rookie line.

With the A Line sponsored BBQ sending out a steady stream of burgers and hotdogs the rain didn’t dull the excitement of the expectant crowd.

First off was the snowboard jam with a huge field to choose from judges Grant Donald and Andy Laird had their work cut out.  In the end however, the trip over from Speyside was worthwhile for Jamie Trinder taking first place in the senior category with stylish back 4’s, back 2’s and huge gaps.  Younger brother Angus also grabbed 1st in the junior category with a series of stylish spins on and off the rails.  The kids category was well fought with Zarack Samdini eventually piping Andy Budge and Fraser Budge to 1st.  With only three girls in the category it was a straight fight between Katie Boyd, Beth Woodall, and Lara Wood with the later coming out on top.

The skiers weren’t letting the snowboarders have all the action and again the standard was high.  Lewis Wilson nailed 1st in the senior category with a sick 2 on/4 off.  In the juniors Andrew Hadfield secured gold with front side switch ups.  Emulating the snowboard kids, Rory Cameron, Keilan Bremner and Fin Jacobs battled it out with Fin eventually taking the glory with a classic 2 on, switch up and 2 out.  Competition newcomer Ramone Waters showed what she was made off with a well deserved 1st in the kids girls category.

Katie Boyd and Beth Woodall came back for a second grab of the prizes in a dual for glory.  Katie edged Beth out and went home with her second prize of the night.

Overall a great comp and thanks to Andy Torrance for some banging tunes, Nicol Paton  for his banter on the mike, and of course Wully Donald for some cracking photos!

A final shout out to Rowan, Angus and Fin  for their hard work in organising the comp and thanks to Granite Reef and Transition Extreme for rewarding the guys with a Surf Lesson and BMX Lesson!

As a prelude to the Aberdeen legs of Westbeach and Lowlander this was a great warm up for the Team Aberdeen riders who will be on fire at these events.
