Retro Slalom at Cairngorm

1 Feb

Let's get retro

A fun event event open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages.

It’s time to rummage through your closet or in the loft and find that old ski suit your mum, dad or grand parents used to wear and track down where that old set of skis went or snowboard.  The older and more rad the gear the more time will be deducted from your runs.

Register on the day at the top of the course from 12.00. (look for the guys dressed in one piece suits!) Get 2 timed runs which will be tabulated and results will be available at 4pm in the Tbar cafe.

Prizes for the best time in each Catergory!

See you there and bring a mate who has camera.

Coaches Corner – Ladies Only

18 Nov

Over the next few months we are going to be adding articles written by our club coaches, these will vary in content from info about the club to sessions or events that have passed, or anything of note that is happening in the sessions.

Next up we have a piece by Jane Hall introducing the Friday Ladies Coach (fueled by Tea and Biscuits):

The ladies club on Friday mornings is a supervised session catering for all standards and ages; from recent beginner through to advanced skier.

Beginners take place at 9.30 -10.30 am on the nursery slope and we run through the basics, or remind you of what you used to know a few years back.

At 11am we move across to the main slopes for the improvers group and run a 2 hour coaching session dictated by the needs of who is there on the day.  We have a syllabus but are not rigid in our approach and will tailor lessons to suit what you want to work on; such as preparing for the snow.  We usually stop for a coffee at 12 noon in the chalet and then carry on until just after 1pm.

Ladies have started off as complete beginners and are now competent parallel skiers.  We have students, mums, ladies who fit skiing in round work and more senior ladies who’ll give you a run for your money.  All are welcome.  If we have another snowy winter, (bring it on), then trips could be organised up to Glenshee using the minibus.

The aim of the sessions is to encourage women to improve their skills, through regular coaching within a friendly and non-competitive environment.   The instruction is informal and can be adapted to look at techniques at your level.  Video analysis is offered at regular intervals.  We aim to have fun, meet up with like minded skiers and learn from each other.

See you there! Less shopping more skiing!

Club Sessions

18 Oct

Hey all, now that the leaves are falling and there is a chill in the air I am sure, like us, you are starting to get itchy feet for that first snow fall.  The local shops are filling up with new toys and the first of the test days have already been down at the slope.  Weekends have been busy with freestyle comps and open days and we are all getting set for another epic winter.

Our club scene has grown at the slope with more people than ever joining in to our coached sessions and reaping the benefit of getting in those boots pre season.  The Goatpost is here to keep all of our members informed on what’s going on at the centre  and events elsewhere that you may be interested in.  We aim to have something here for everyone, from your kids in the weekend  clubs to adults on Thursday nights and everyone inbetween including our very talented rippers and racers who are starting to travel the country and standing on podiums.

If you want to keep informed make sure you sign up for email subscription and you’ll be sure not to miss a post.  If you have any photos that you’ve taken or anything you’d like to add then feel free to email thegoatpost@gmail.com and we’ll post it up.  Thanks and check back for more info on your club – go direct to Categories if you want to check on the latest updates for your specific club.
