Let's get retro

A fun event event open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages.

It’s time to rummage through your closet or in the loft and find that old ski suit your mum, dad or grand parents used to wear and track down where that old set of skis went or snowboard.  The older and more rad the gear the more time will be deducted from your runs.

Register on the day at the top of the course from 12.00. (look for the guys dressed in one piece suits!) Get 2 timed runs which will be tabulated and results will be available at 4pm in the Tbar cafe.

Prizes for the best time in each Catergory!

See you there and bring a mate who has camera.

Avalanche Safety Talk At Aberdeen Snowsports Centre

14 Dec

This unique opportunity is brought to you by Craigdon Mountain Sports.  With the season already upon us and rumours that it’s going to be an even bigger snowfall than last year you’d be crazy to miss this.

With the correct training and use of equipment the scope for off piste skiing is tremendous.  This talk guarantees to get you stoked and wanting more.  The talk will be running alongside the Aberdeen Snowsports Centre Adult Improvers Ski and Snowboard sessions so you’ll be in the company of some of our top coaches and there may even be some mince pies added into the mix – it is Christmas after all.

If you’ve ever looked at those powder pillows whilst your confined to piste and know that’s where you want to be

– take the first step and learn more.

Thursday 16th December 7pm.

Coaches Corner – Ski Adult Improvers

18 Oct

Over the next few months we are going to be adding articles written by our club coaches, these will vary in content from info about the club to sessions or events that have passed, or anything of note that is happening in the sessions.

First up we’ve got an article from Mark Hall coach of the Thursday night adult improvers (fueled by coffee and Chocolate Hob Nobs)

‘Ive skied loads but you’ve really helped me to get a buzz out of my skiing over the last few weeks’;  ‘I can now carve those new shaped skis!’;  ‘Could you make me look smooth and cool in the bumps just like you!’  ‘Im not very confident after an injury. Can you help?’

These are some of the questions, statements, and challenges that Bob and myself have attended to over the last two years we’ve been running the Thursday night adult performance ski group.  I must say, it’s been great fun coaching all standards of skier, and ages. We have had regulars that span from 18 to 70 years young. Once the first feelings of skiing on plastic are absorbed the skiers quickly desire the next bump, jump or slalom to challenge themselves against. The support and camaraderie of the group really helps people settle in and progress. It’s not an instruction session but one were coaching takes each willing skier to new heights, to new understandings and to ultimately more enjoyment in their skiing. Great fun for all!

Join in every Thursday 7-9pm for adults who reach the minimum standard for slope use.

Club Sessions

18 Oct

Hey all, now that the leaves are falling and there is a chill in the air I am sure, like us, you are starting to get itchy feet for that first snow fall.  The local shops are filling up with new toys and the first of the test days have already been down at the slope.  Weekends have been busy with freestyle comps and open days and we are all getting set for another epic winter.

Our club scene has grown at the slope with more people than ever joining in to our coached sessions and reaping the benefit of getting in those boots pre season.  The Goatpost is here to keep all of our members informed on what’s going on at the centre  and events elsewhere that you may be interested in.  We aim to have something here for everyone, from your kids in the weekend  clubs to adults on Thursday nights and everyone inbetween including our very talented rippers and racers who are starting to travel the country and standing on podiums.

If you want to keep informed make sure you sign up for email subscription and you’ll be sure not to miss a post.  If you have any photos that you’ve taken or anything you’d like to add then feel free to email thegoatpost@gmail.com and we’ll post it up.  Thanks and check back for more info on your club – go direct to Categories if you want to check on the latest updates for your specific club.
